A fieldtrip into the building blocks of technology for preschoolers - uncover the workings of computers and the internet so you can use them to safely navigate your quests of inquiry, exploration and creation.
The internet is a modern day cabinet of curiosities, and the computer is one of our most powerful vehicles to explore it. In this module, kids get acquainted with hardware, software, and dive into the inner workings of computers and the internet, equipping themselves to confidently and safely navigate their journeys of inquiry, exploration and creation. By the end of the course, they’ll be handy with a mouse and keyboard, and poised to take on coding with block-based programmes like Scratch!
Introduces kids to hardware, software, and the workings of computers and the internet
Learn to navigate the internet, and familiarise themselves with using a mouse and keyboard
Preparation for kids to start coding with Scratch and other block-based programming languages
All you need to know
Our fieldtrip into the building blocks of technology starts way back in time – as we begin by exploring a brief history of computers!
Did you know that the first known computer was designed in the year 1822, and weighed 15 tonnes (that’s 15,000 kilograms!)?!
As we get to know about computers, we’ll also learn about the different parts that make up a computer, and how they work together as a machine with the ability to perform incredible functions. As part of this process, you’ll learn to distinguish between hardware, software, and even start to identify the hidden computers in our midst.
Now that we know about computers inside out, we dive deep into the workings and wonders of internet!
Almost everything is connected to the world wide web these days – from our televisions, refrigerators, even our buses and trains. How does that work, and how does that affect how we live, work and play? As we learn about the infrastructure of the internet, we’ll discover what makes these connections possible and how they impact the world as we know it.
Always evolving and ever expanding, the internet is one of the most exciting spaces to explore. But before embarking on that adventure, it’s just as important we pack our toolbox and equip ourselves with the skills and knowledge to navigate the wild landscape of the internet with confidence, and curiosity, and security. To do that, we’ll get the lowdown on internet safety, and build a solid foundation in digital citizenship, practising confident and positive engagement on the internet.
And now, we’re all ready to go!
We’ll kickstart our exploration of the internet by practising searching for answers on Kiddle, a child-friendly search engine. And next, we’ll take a sneak peek at Scratch – a drag and drop block-based programming language designed for kids. Trying our hand at Scratch, we’ll tinker with the platform and experiment with simple activities to practice using a computer mouse and apply what you’ve learned!
By the end of this course, you’ll be a pro at understanding how computers and the internet work, how you might make confidently and securely use these tools, and aware of the possibilities they open up for kids like you and billions of people around the world. You’ll also be all ready to take on the challenges of coding using block-based programming language so you’ll soon be creating your own games, animations, in Start with Scratch or Coding the Impossibles.

No lectures. No memorisation. No ONE right answer. Like real life, we're all about trying things out yourself, failing, figuring what went wrong & trying again. These are the skills & mindset that will last a lifetime and how we learn in real life. Let's get kids to learn how to learn. Because the kids who learn to learn become curious, inventive, resourceful human beings who solve real world problems to make a meaningful impact.
"This is the first time I signed my children up for the course. They enjoyed it and asked to go back again. The teacher has been patient and friendly with the kids to make the class a fun learning place."
"Both kids clearly enjoyed the camp and want to go back for more camps! The teacher led presentation at the end was a nice summary of their learnings."
"Hannah had fun. My other kids have gone for other coding camps but they like Saturday Kids best."
Your kid will love it
If your kid doesn't think it's the best thing ever after attending the first 2 days of holiday camps (or first 3 weeks of term classes), and would like to withdraw, we'll issue you a 50% credit note of the amount paid.
