KEEPIN’ IT SHORT & SNAPPY

  • Suitable for kids who have completed Scratch Explorers 3
  • Integrate science with code and discover the real world applications of STEM in the world
  • Build coding projects in Scratch to visualise to explore your understanding of Science topics

All you need to know

Expect the unexpected when science and code collide! Get excited about the world of science and learn the basics of coding to process and apply new knowledge about the Earth and Life Sciences.

In this module, we’ll learn all about life on Earth. From Life Sciences to Earth Sciences, our learning will culminate in the creation of a thematic interactive animation or quiz made with block-based programming platform Scratch.

Explore how natural processes affect the world around us.

Ever wondered how the Grand Canyon was formed? Or how rivers and streams change in size and shape over time?

Learn all about weathering, erosion and deposition processes that occur daily around the world. Apply this knowledge in tandem with your coding skills to debug a project.

Then we’ll take a step back to zoom out and learn all about the biosphere – the ecosystems that make up Earth. Then design and code a quiz game with Scratch!

Next, let’s explore how we can protect and conserve Mother Earth!

Take a peek into the human activities that cause damage to the environment, and share ideas on how we can conserve it to protect our planet. Then build a scratch game, using event blocks, to help fight global warming.

Learn about the magic (AKA science!) behind magnets and discover how they can be used in recycling facilities. Then, based on what you know of magnetic poles, code up an animation that explains how a magnetic waste separator works.

Explore the different types of clean energy we can use to generate electricity, and learn about solar energy as an alternative to fossil fuels.

Apply if-then-else conditions to create an animation about how we can save electricity in our daily lives. Then build your very own Scratch project highlighting your favourite type of clean energy!

In Scratch Explorers, kids ages 7-10 synergise introductory concepts in science and coding. In each class, kids process new knowledge by building mini projects via block-based language Scratch, culminating in a final project at the end of term that creatively expresses what they’ve learned.

In the process, kids develop creativity, curiosity, and a growth mindset, and in subsequent modules learn to use planning and design thinking to prototype solutions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The learning outcomes for Scratch Explorers are aligned to Singapore’s MOE Science Syllabus.

Oh! The stuff you'll learn

  • Learn about algorithms and programming core concepts such as variables, loops, conditionals, events
  • Develop programme development skills such as debugging and iteration
  • Explore and learn about topics in Earth and Life sciences
  • Gather information about a problem by asking questions and doing research; Demonstrate how a problem affects others and brainstorm ideas using various methods

Life skills you'll learn

Design Thinking
Logical Thinking
Presentation Skills
Problem Solving

Pedagogy

No lectures. No memorisation. No ONE right answer. Like real life, we're all about trying things out yourself, failing, figuring what went wrong & trying again. These are the skills & mindset that will last a lifetime and how we learn in real life. Let's get kids to learn how to learn. Because the kids who learn to learn become curious, inventive, resourceful human beings who solve real world problems to make a meaningful impact.

Parents love us

The happiest hours of your child's week

"My child loved it, and asked why his school can't teach like this! Looks like you are transforming the way science is taught."

"We actually get to do hands-on stuff like coding; we get to learn how things get invented in real life, instead of just using them."

"YES! I LOVE IT SOOOOOO MUCH."

Your kid will love it

If your kid doesn't think it's the best thing ever after attending the first 2 days of holiday camps (or first 3 weeks of term classes), and would like to withdraw, we'll issue you a 50% credit note of the amount paid.
