For Ages 7-10

Explore what happens to the delicious food we eat every day after it enters our bodies. At the same time, build up foundational knowledge of computer science concepts & apply them through thematic projects on Scratch.

  • Available in hybrid format (Online & Offline)
Parents can opt for the online format, up to a week before the start of workshop
  • No experience necessary
  • Integrate science with code and discover the real-world applications of STEM in the world
  • Dive deep into Life Sciences – let’s learn more about how our body processes the food we eat
  • Apply your new knowledge on our digestive system by building a Scratch project with your coding superpowers

All you need to know

Scratchers Assemble!

Introducing Scratch, a visual programming language created specifically for kids. It’s a block-based programming language where kids learn to code through a simple drag-and-drop visual interface, lowering the barriers to learning for kids who aren’t yet proficient with using a keyboard.

Digestive System

Ever wondered what happens to the food we eat? Or how it is digested & giving us plenty of energy?

Let’s explore our digestive system. Learn about the organs in our digestive system and what each of their roles are.

Pick up the basics of block-based programming with Scratch. Then expand your coding toolkit by applying the concept of sensing in our project.

With your new coding superpowers, apply your skills to build a Scratch project illustrating our digestive system.

This workshop’s science and coding outcomes are aligned to K12 Standards (K12 CS Framework, Next Generation Science Standards, Singapore MOE Science Syllabus, National Curriculum in England Science Programme).

For online format, your child will require:

  • A computer or laptop with a working webcam and microphone, in order to participate in class and for our instructor to check their understanding. Kindly avoid sharing devices.
  • Internet speed of 25Mbps or above. You can check your internet speed here.
  • Familiarity with basic computer functions, such as typing on a keyboard, using a mouse, switching between desktop apps and navigating a browser (opening a new tab, entering URLs)
  • Google Chrome as their default web browser during classes. You may download it here.
  • Installing Zoom is recommended for a smoother learning experience. You may do so here.
(For macOS computers, please enable these permission settings)
  • We also recommend that you have an adult member of your household standing by for the first 15 mins of the first class to assist with any technical difficulties that may arise.

Oh! The stuff you'll learn

  • Understand what a digestive system is
  • Identify the organs in the human digestive system
  • Describe functions of the digestive system’s organs
  • Introduction into block-based programming
  • Understand the concept of Sensing in programming
  • Apply the Sensing blocks in Scratch projects

Life skills you'll learn

Creative Confidence
Logical Thinking
Problem Solving

Pedagogy

No lectures. No memorisation. No ONE right answer. Like real life, we're all about trying things out yourself, failing, figuring what went wrong & trying again. These are the skills & mindset that will last a lifetime and how we learn in real life. Let's get kids to learn how to learn. Because the kids who learn to learn become curious, inventive, resourceful human beings who solve real world problems to make a meaningful impact.

Parents love us

The happiest hours of your child's week

"My child loved Science with Code, and asked why his school can't teach like this! Looks like you are transforming the way science is taught."

"In Science with Code, we actually get to do hands-on stuff like coding; we get to learn how things get invented in real life, instead of just using them."

"YES! I LOVE IT SOOOOOO MUCH."
