Course Summary

Learning outcomes:

‘Coding the Impossible: Foundations in Block-based Code, Module 1, Part A’ is a continuation of the introductory course into the world of programming for kids, designed with Saturday Kids’ unique pedagogy.

Kids will first get comfortable with the Scratch platform interface, where all the coding magic happens. Kids will be tapping on their innate creativity and get inspired while learning:

  1. To apply core programming concepts in recreations of classic games
  2. To identify key Game Design elements: Space, Components, Mechanics, Goals and Rules
  3. To reinforce their understanding of Broadcast and Variables
  4. To breakdown and recreate Pong, Beyblade and Fidget Spinner games on Scratch

At the end of the course, they would have 3 new projects to add to their portfolio! Along the way, they will also learn to articulate and learn crucial presentation skills that will benefit them later in their learning journey.

All About the Course

Continue your coding adventure with Coding the Impossible, Module 1 Part A as we further explore a well-known block-based programming language, Scratch.

In each lesson, kids will be learning delving deeper into core Scratch concepts and recreating some classic games!

Throughout this bootcamp series, kids will be recreating the game of Pong, Beyblade and an online Fidget Spinner.

At the end, kids will gain a stronger understanding of game design elements, how to apply them to their Scratch projects and the differences between analog and digital games !

Format: In-person, at a Saturday Kids location.

What if?

Should government regulations advise against in-person classes, this camp will be shifted online in an abridged 2h/day format. Students will receive an email with instructions about the online class.
