Course Summary

Learning outcomes:

During each week, kids will first kick start their adventure by exploring our Science syllabus that is aligned with MOE’s Science Syllabus. Then, we’ll bring these Science concepts into Scratch’s interface – and kids will get to code up projects based off what was taught. Here’s what to expect during this bootcamp:

Yummy scrumptious food:

  • Science
    • Learn about the world’s interconnected systems – A journey through the food chain.
    • Understand answers to questions like: Why do we feel healthy and strong when we eat? Where does all our energy come from? How do plants and animals receive energy? What is their primary source?
  • Coding
    • Combine the science concepts with programming concepts like algorithms and sequencing.
    • Build awesome animations in Scratch that explain how energy travels to end up in our favourite foods.

Flourishing of plants on Planet Earth:

  • Science
    • Understand the science behind plant life on Earth – The flourishing of plants on Planet Earth.
    • What enables plants to flourish on Planet Earth? Learn all about the 5 growth stages in a plant’s life cycle.
    • Learn all about the different parts of a young plant and how each feature enables it to grow into a full tree.
  • Coding
    • Use Scratch to interact with and create with the new science concepts your child has learnt
    • Code up your own plant to life.
    • Code up an interactive seed sorting game. Then, play it afterwards.
    • Animate your own wheat farm to life.

Our body and us:

  • Science
    • Understand what happens in our bodies and our respiratory system when we breathe air in and out.
    • Understand what happens to our food after we eat it.
  • Coding
    • Recreate our respiration and digestive systems as animations through coding on Scratch.

The stuff you’ll learn:

  1. Bring the science you learn in school to life by integrating it with coding, and seeing how it’s applicable in real life.
  2. Learn about a variety of science and engineering professions, what they do, and the related science topics.
  3. Visit different parts of the world to see science in action.
  4. Build coding projects in Scratch to visualise and explore your understanding of Science topics.
  5. Learn to set goals, identify knowledge gaps and list steps to achieve your goals.
  6. Practice defining problems and improving projects based on feedback.
  • Suitable for Ages: 7-10
  • Completes in: 8 hours in 4 weeks
  • Class Size of: 6 (1:6 teacher student ratio)
  • Price: SGD295 (U.P.) SGD265 (E.B. Special)

Upon completion of the course, the student would receive

  • A digital certificate of completion of the course
  • Video presentation of projects created by student

All About the Course

It’s a 4-week coding bootcamp with Science, where Science and Scratch coding collide! Discover the possibilities of applied STEM and create interactive animated projects while expanding your knowledge of science.

During the bootcamp days, kids will get comfortable with coding on the Scratch platform, while reinforcing their Science concepts along the way.

Throughout this bootcamp series, kids will have the chance to create their own remixed version of science projects (animations and games) that cements their understanding of the concept.

By the end, kids walk away with a strong foundational knowledge of both Scratch and Science, ready to empower the world with their new creations.

Join us for our 4-week bootcamp and let’s unlock their fullest potential of both Science and Scratch programming!

Explore the Food Chain

Learn how plants and animals receive energy, and trace it back to its primary source. Combine your understanding of food chains with programming concepts like algorithms and sequencing, and build awesome animations that explain how energy travels to end up in our favourite foods.

Closer Look at Plants

Learn all about the 5 growth stages in a plant’s life cycle and use Scratch to animate your own wheat farm! Explore different parts of a young plant, and how each feature enables it to grow into a full tree. As we investigate how each part of a plant works, apply the programming concept of events to use code to bring your very own plant to life!

Explore how seeds travel around the world and their journeys of dispersal. Then with your Scratch superpowers, code up an interactive seed sorting game!

Systems in the Human Body

In the next part of this learning journey, we’ll learn all about how our bodies work and the systems that keep us healthy every day. Then, we’ll use our coding skills to recreate these systems as animations!

Life skills you'll learn

Design Thinking
Logical Thinking
Presentation Skills
Problem Solving
